# Cycle 87

## 87.1 Vowel Names

#### Purpose and Procedure

In this task, you will show students that a vowel’s letter name is the same as that vowel’s “long” sound (the sound with the line over it).

Even if a student already knew the letter names of the vowels before doing this task, make sure they don’t miss the observation at the end of the task that the names of the letters are the same as the sounds that have lines over them.

## 87.3 Patterns -VCe

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task requires students to read multisyllabic -VCe pattern words in a serif font, but only after the students have read the word in the specialized orthography.
