## 159.1 Letter Combinations

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task requires students to read words that contain the *oy* or *oi* letter combination without being asked to identify the letter combination or its sound before reading the word.

## 159.4 Patterns

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task asks students to read derivatives of -VC and -VCe base words that are NOT minimally different pairs. These derivatives have *-er* and *-est* suffixes. At this stage, students are still asked to read the underlined base word before reading the full derivative.

This task introduces the *-ful* and *-less* endings and their meanings.&#x20;
