159.1 Letter Combinations

This task requires students to read words that contain the oy or oi letter combination without being asked to identify the letter combination or its sound before reading the word.

159.4 Patterns -VCe

This task asks students to read derivatives of -VC and -VCe base words that are NOT minimally-different pairs. These derivatives have -er and -est suffixes. At this stage, students are still asked to read the underlined base word before reading the full derivative.
