# Cycle 158

## 158.1 Letter Combinations

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task requires students to read simple words containing the *oy* or *oi* letter combination after they identify the letter combination and its sound.

## 158.4 Patterns

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task asks students to read derivatives of minimally different -VC and -VCe base words with *-er*, *-ed*, and *-est* suffixes. At this stage, students are asked to read the underlined base word before reading the full derivative.

## 158.7 Word Parts

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task introduces the *-er* and *-est* endings, which are added to words in order to make comparisons, as in the words *old*, *older*, and *oldest* (comparatives and superlatives).

There are four parts in this task. In the first three parts, students only touch and repeat the words and endings. The first three parts require you to point to specific words as you say them, so pay close attention and make sure that you point to the words as directed in the instructor pane. In the final part of the task, students touch and read the words without you saying them first.
