## 170.1 Letter Combinations

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task introduces the “minor sound” of the letter combination *ea* as in *head*. This is called the “minor sound” because the *ea* letter combination usually makes the /ē/ sound, but it can also sometimes make the /ĕ/ sound, as it does in the words in this task.
