This task requires students to read simple words containing the *or* letter combination after they identify the letter combination and its sound.

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task exposes students to a compound word with two -VCe patterns in it: *lifetime*.

#### Correcting the Student

a. Use your finger to cover *-time* at the end of the word, and say: <mark style="color:purple;">First, read just this beginning part… Yes,</mark> <mark style="color:purple;"></mark>*<mark style="color:purple;">life</mark>*<mark style="color:purple;">.</mark>&#x20;

b. Move your finger to cover *life-* at the beginning of the word, and say: <mark style="color:purple;">Now read this last part… Yes,</mark> <mark style="color:purple;"></mark>*<mark style="color:purple;">time</mark>*<mark style="color:purple;">.</mark>&#x20;

c. Remove your finger to uncover the whole word, and say: <mark style="color:purple;">Now put those two parts together…</mark>

Students read words with various endings, including the *-es* ending.
