In this task, students will learn the sound /ch/ as in chain. This is another quick sound (like t/, /d/, /g/, /h/, /k/ (written as c), /b/, and /k/).
Even though this sound is made of two characters that usually represent two sounds, we want students to recognize it as a single unit, which is why the characters are visibly connected.
Make sure you do not stop at the arrowhead under the sound, and take care to make as little of a vowel sound after it as possible. It should be /ch/ not /chǝ/.
The final part of this task introduces reading words sub-vocally when they begin and end with quick sounds before reading them out loud the fast way.
If a student struggles to read them out loud correctly, ask the student to read the word slowly out loud so that you can diagnose the problem.
Ensure that students touch under the words when reading them silently and when saying them fast.
