177.1 Letter Combinations
Purpose and Procedure
This task requires students to read multisyllabic words containing the minor oo sound. Students are not asked to identify the letter combination or its sound before reading the word.
177.4 Patterns
Purpose and Procedure
Students read derivatives of -VC and -VCe base words, but this time the vowel is not underlined. If they make an error, point to the first vowel and follow the correction text.
Correcting the Student
❖ If the student makes an error, point to the first vowel, and use these prompts to guide them:
a. Does a single letter or a double letter come after it?…
b. So should you read this letter’s name or the sound that it usually makes?…
c. And what does that sound like?…
d. Try the whole word again…
