160.1 Letter Combinations

Purpose and Procedure

This task requires students to read multisyllabic words containing the oy or oi letter combination. Students are not asked to identify the letter combination or its sound before reading the word.

160.4 Patterns

Purpose and Procedure

This task again asks students to read derivatives of -VC and -VCe base words that are NOT minimally different pairs. This time, the derivatives have -er and -ed suffixes. At this stage, students are still asked to read the underlined base word before reading the full derivative.

160.7 Word Parts

Purpose and Procedure

This task introduces five beginnings that all mean "not": un-, non-, in-, im-, and dis-.

Students only touch and repeat words in this cycle.
