# Cycle 102

## 102.1 Letter Combinations

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task requires students to read simple words containing *ai* and *ay* letter combinations after they identify the letter combination and its sound.

## 102.2 Review

#### Purpose and Procedure

This is the first task in which students are asked to read a capital letter without seeing its lowercase version first.

If students have trouble doing so, you will advance to show them the lowercase version and then go backward to show them the capital letter again, as directed in the correction text. After students read the capital letter correctly, you will go forward to show them the lowercase letter again and proceed with the script.

#### Correcting the Student

The following is the correction text to use if a student makes a mistake in this type of *Review* task:

❖ If the student doesn’t know, advance to show the lowercase version of the letter, and say: Here is what this letter looks like when it’s not a capital letter. What sound does it make?… Good. Toggle back to the capital letter. Now what sound does it make when it is a capital letter?…

## 102.3 Irregulars

#### Purpose and Procedure

This is the first task in which students write eight words.

#### Important Reminders

Students will write each word once, and they should copy it by looking at the word on the screen.

## 102.4 Patterns -VCe

#### Purpose and Procedure

This is the first task in which students will read CCVC and CCVCe pattern words (in a serif font) that are NOT minimally different pairs. They begin with initial consonant blends.

## 102.6 Story Reading

#### Purpose and Procedure

This is the first task in which students are asked to find words (in a serif font) that contain certain letter combinations.

## 102.7 Word Parts

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task presents words with *-s* and *-es* endings that have their base words underlined.

Students read the base word first and then the whole word with its ending. At the end of the task, students read the whole words without the base words underlined.
