Purpose and Procedure
This task illustrates that the silent e at the end of -VCe pattern words disappears when that base word takes a suffix beginning with a vowel.
Correcting the Student
The following is the correction text to use if a student struggles with saying a base word with an ending added to it in this task [example word: saver]:
❖ If a student struggles to read the word with the ending, point to save, and say: What is this word?… Then point to -er, and say: What is this ending?… Then point to saver, and say: So what word is this?…
❖ If the student still struggles to read the word with the ending, say: This word is saver. What word is it?…

Purpose and Procedure
This task is the first in a series that introduces students to three endings (-s, -es, and -'s) and their meanings (the first two indicate plurals or verb conjugations; the last indicates possession).
The words in this cycle are all plurals ending with -s or -es.
