In this task, students will learn the sound /r/ as in rain.
Make sure not to add a vowel sound before it (like /ər/ at the end of the word painter) or after it (like /rŭh/ at the beginning of the word rust). The correct pronunciation is like saying the word roar without the oar at the end.
Treat the /h/ sound at the beginning of hey as a stop sound. If necessary, ask students to take a deep breath before they say it.
This task prepares students to tracking their fingers across more than two lines of text.
At the end of each line, make sure that students follow the dashed arrows to the start of the next line.
This task introduces stories that continue across three lines of text. It also introduces stories with more than one sentence.
