# Cycle 86

## 86.1 Vowel Names

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task introduces the letter names of the vowels.

Many students will have already learned these letter names from outside of this curriculum, so—in many cases—this task will move very quickly.

Any time you see the letter written in italics (*a*, *e*, *i*, *o*, *u*), we are referring to the letter's name, which is the same as the "long" sound (/ā/, /ē/, /ī/, /ō/, /ū/) made by that letter.

## 86.3 Patterns -VCe

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task requires students to read -VCe pattern words (in a serif font) that contain consonant blends, but only after the students have read the word in the specialized orthography.
