## 46.2 The Slow-Fast Game

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task introduces words that have initial and final consonant blends when the initial blend is composed of a continuous sound followed by a quick sound, like /ssst/ in *stink*.

## 46.3 Word Reading

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task introduces the fact that the word *a* can be pronounced in two acceptable ways: /ā/ and /ǝ/.

It also introduces reading a word (*eats*) that ends with a consonant blend composed of a quick sound followed by a continuous sound.

The final part of this task introduces reading words with small, unpronounced characters when there are no symbols beneath the words.

#### Purpose and Procedure

The new passage is the first that has five lines of text.
