# Cycle 111

## 111.1 Letter Combinations

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task requires students to read words that contain the *wh* letter combination and that are also ‑VCe pattern words (though not all of the words in this task are ‑VCe pattern words). Students are not asked to identify the letter combination or its sound before reading the word.

## 111.4 Patterns

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task introduces what is called the minor sound of the letter *c*. That’s when *c* makes the /s/ sound (instead of /k/) when it’s followed by *e*, *i*, or *y*.

## 111.6 Story Reading

#### Purpose and Procedure

The new passage in this task is the first one to appear in a serif font.

## 111.7 Word Parts

#### Purpose and Procedure

In this task, students repeat a compound word after you say it and then they read the component words that make up the compound word. At the end of the task, students read each compound word.
