## 148.1 Letter Combinations

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/Rt1JfjFUDPE>" %}

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task introduces the letter combination *ow* as in *snow*.

## 148.4 Patterns

#### Purpose and Procedure

This is the first time students are asked to read -VCe pattern words ending in *-ment*, *-ly*, *-ness*, *‑ful*, and *-less* suffixes without the base words being underlined.

## 148.7 Word Parts

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task is the first in a series that introduces students to three beginnings (*pre-*, *post-*, and *re-*) and their meanings ("before," "after," and "again"). Students touch and repeat the beginnings after you say them.

Note that in this task, *pre-* is pronounced /prē/ and *re-* is pronounced /rē/ (rather than being pronounced with schwa sounds) because they are accented syllables.

The words in this task all begin with *pre-.*
