# Cycle 138

## 138.1 Letter Combinations

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task requires students to read multisyllabic words containing the *al* letter combination. Students are not asked to identify the letter combination or its sound before reading the word.

## 138.4 Patterns

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task focuses on adding the suffix *-less* to the end of -VCe pattern words. This is an auditory exercise that lays the groundwork for reading words like these later.

## 138.7 Word Parts

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task continues to teach the *-er* and *-ist* endings, with a focus on words with the *-ist* ending.

This time, students read the endings without you telling them what they are. Students touch and say the words in the first part, but touch and read them in the second part. At the end of the task, you ask about what the *-ist* ending means.
