# Cycle 146

## 146.1 Letter Combinations

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task requires students to read multisyllabic words containing the *ph* letter combination. Students are not asked to identify the letter combination or its sound before reading the word.

## 146.4 Patterns

#### Purpose and Procedure

This is the first time students are asked to read -VCe pattern words ending in *-ful* and *-less* suffixes without reading the underlined base word first.

## 146.6 Story Reading

#### Purpose and Procedure

The new passage is the first in which the *ph* letter combination appears in story text (underlined for now). This is also the first task in which the *oo* letter combination appears without being underlined.

## 146.7 Word Parts

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task introduces students to the *-ize* ending. Students learn that words with the *-ize* ending are usually action words.
