This task requires students to read multisyllabic words containing the *ou* letter combination. Students are not asked to identify the letter combination or its sound before reading the word.

#### Purpose and Procedure

This task introduces students to words that start with *a-* where the letter *a* is an unstressed first syllable that makes the schwa sound /ǝ/ (similar to a /ŭ/), as in the word *award*.
